Sign the Petition and Help Pay for Washington Post Ad on Stopping the Killing
With over 600 Palestinians and 11 Israelis killed and the death toll mounting daily as the Gaza offensive escalates, we urgently need to demand that world leaders take action to end the violence and protect civilians....

Framing the Gaza Conflict
Dennis Fox, who has lived and worked in both Israel and Palestine goes back to basics in asking these questions: Who started the current hostilities? Who started the broader conflict? What kind of conflict is it? Does Israel deserve, and does it get, exceptional treatment? Where's justice? He also has photos from peace protests in the Boston area.
America's Hidden Role in Hamas's Rise to Power
The United States bears much of the blame for the ongoing bloodshed in the Gaza Strip and nearby parts of Israel. Indeed, were it not for misguided Israeli and American policies, Hamas would not be in control of the territory in the first place. By Stephen Zunes

Stop the siege!Molten Lead
Those who decided to close the crossings - under whatever pretext - knew that there is no real cease-fire under these conditions. That is the main thing. Then there came the small provocations which were designed to get Hamas to react. After several months, in which hardly any Qassam rockets were launched, an army unit was sent into the Strip "in order to destroy a tunnel that came close to the border fence". From a purely military point of view, it would have made more sense to lay an ambush on our side of the fence. But the aim was to find a pretext for the termination of the cease-fire, in a way that made it plausible to put the blame on the Palestinians. And indeed, after several such small actions, in which Hamas fighters were killed, Hamas retaliated with a massive launch of rockets, and - lo and behold - the cease-fire was at an end. Everybody blamed Hamas.

And there lie the bodies
Here lie their bodies, row upon row, some of them tiny. Our hearts have turned hard and our eyes have become dull. All of Israel has worn military fatigues, uniforms that are opaque and stained with blood and which enable us to carry out any crime. Even our leading intellectuals fail to speak out on what havoc we have wreaked. By Gideon Levy

Govt Terrorism or Self Defense?
The corporate media can be counted on to minimize discussion of the terrorising of a population when that population is Palestinian. As well, any evidence of solidarity by left wing Israelis is totally obliterated, leading one to assume that if the NY Times says Israel is acting in self defense, it must be true. Here then are news reports from other sources, mainly activist groups, which put the issue in better perspective.
