□ Lecturer Profile:

Anna Baltzer, the grandaughter of a Nazi Holocaust survivor, is a Jewish-American human rights activist, who graduated from Columbia University in 2003.

After teaching English in Ankara, Turkey as a Fulbright Scholar, Baltzer had an opportunity to travel around Lebanon and later visit Palestine, to face the daily reality of the Israeli occupation. By 2007, she had spent eight months as a volunteer with the International Women's Peace Service in the West Bank. She detailed her experiences in her photo reportage, Witness in Palestine, which received critical praise from Noam Chomsky and others.

Baltzer, as a third-generation descendent of a Holocaust survivor, has been a vigorous opponent of U.S. policies of supporting Israel's occupation, appealing against Israel's occupation activities, through lecture tours across the U.S. and abroad. Visit her website:

□講師プロフィール

ユダヤ系アメリカ人の人権活動家。祖父母をはじめとする親族がナチスの

ホロコーストの犠牲となったホロコースト3世。コロンビア大学卒。

2003年、フルブライト奨学生としてトルコのアンカラで英語を教えていた時、

イスラエル占領下のパレスチナを訪れ、占領の現実に直面する。

以後、2007年までのべ8カ月間を西岸で過ごし、占領の実態をつぶさに

体験する。2007年、写真入りルポルタージュ「パレスチナの目撃者」

（Witness of Palestine）を上梓、ノーム・チョムスキーらに絶賛される。

イスラエルの政策とイスラエルを支援するアメリカの政策を批判し、

全米各地ならびに海外で、占領の現実を訴える講演活動を精力的に

伝えている。

合衆国の人間に西岸で活動していると言うと、みな同じ質問をします。

「どっちの側で？パレスチナ？それともイスラエル？」でも、これは、

パレスチナ人とイスラエル人の闘いなどではありません。自由と基本的

人権を求める人間の闘いなのです。

これは正義に対する闘いです。私たちすべてに影響するものであり、

私たちすべてが関係しているものです。キング牧師も次のように言って

います。「どこの場所であれ不正義はあらゆる場所の正義を脅かす。

私たちは逃れることのできない相互的な網の目の中に捕らわれており、

たったひとつの運命の衣で結ばれているのだ」と……

パレスチナ難民に対するナクバは今日なお、さまざまな形で続いています。

イスラエルで、西岸で、ガザで、そしてディアスポラの地で。これは、

古代史のことではありません、今、まさに起きていることです……

2003年、一人のユダヤ系アメリカ人の女性が目にしたイスラエル占領下の
パレスチナの現実は、彼女の人生を決定的に変えてしまいました。ユダヤ人
として、アメリカ人として、そして一人の人間として、アンナ・バルツァーはそれ
以後、パレスチナ占領の実態を世界に知らせるとともに、「ユダヤ国家」の
名のもとにパレスチナ人に対するあらゆる暴力を正当化するイスラエルと、その
イスラエルを支援するアメリカ国家を痛烈に批判し続けています。「合衆国の
人間に、西岸で活動していると言うと、みな同じ質問をします。「どっちの側で？イスラエル？それともパレスチナ？」でも、これは、パレスチナ人とイスラエル人の闘いなどではありません。自由と基本的人権を求める人間の闘いなのです。」

アンナの祖父母はホロコースト体験者です。「占領と圧に反対することが反ユダヤ主義だなんてことはありません。批判的な思考、開かれた議論、社会的正義といったものはユダヤ今日の伝統に沿うものであり、歴史を通じてユダヤ人の誇りの源であったものです。」

プロフィール：重信メイさん　

レバノン・ベイルート生まれ、1997 年、ベイルートのアメリカン大学を卒業後、同大学政治学科大学院に在籍。レバノン大学では、ジャーナリズムを学び、28年間国籍を持たなかったが、2001年3月5日に日本国籍を取得し、同年4月より日本在住。現在、塾講師のかたわらパレスチナ問題を中心に、中東問題、アラブ世界、イスラム文化、イラクやクルド問題などを、講演活動で伝えている。 2004年から同志社大学の博士課程で中東衛星放送を研究。2005年に「APF http://www.facebook.com/l/dfc5cif8uN_QFikMC3maZrY4jLw;NEWS」（www.apfnews.com）内のWEB 番組「オリーブ・ジャーナル」でのキャスターを経て、2010年までニュース専門ＣＳャンネル、朝日ニュースターの番組「ニュースの深層」のサブキャスターとして活躍。著書に『秘密

About Anna Baltzer:

Anna Baltzer is a Columbia University (New York) graduate, former Fulbright scholar, and the granddaughter of Holocaust refugees. As a volunteer with the International Women's Peace Service in the West Bank, Baltzer documented human rights abuses and supported Palestinian-led nonviolent resistance to the Occupation.

Baltzer has appeared on television more than 100 times (including most recently "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart") and lectured at more than 400 universities, schools, churches, mosques, and synagogues around the world with her presentation, "Life in Occupied Palestine: Eyewitness Stories & Photos," and her book: Witness in Palestine: A Jewish American Woman in the Occupied Territories.

In 2009, Baltzer received the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee's prestigious Annual Rachel Corrie Peace & Justice Award and a Certificate of Commendation from the Governor of Wisconsin for her commitment to justice in the Holy Land. She is a contributor to four books on the subject, including Shifting Sands: Jewish Women Confront the Israeli Occupation, and serves on the Middle East committee of the Women's International League for Peace & Freedom and the Board of Directors of The Research Journalism Institute, Grassroots Jerusalem, and Council for the National Interest.

Additional presenter: May Shigenobu (journalist)

May was born in Lebanon. She graduated from the American University of Beirut in Political Science and Public Administration, where she went on to become a graduate student in International Relations in addition to studying Journalism at the Lebanese University. She relocated to Japan in 2001, when she also obtained Japanese citizenship--having previously not been recognized as a citizen of any country. She now works as a preparatory school teacher and a freelance reporter for Middle Eastern television from Japan. She also regularly gives lectures and serves as a commentator on such topics as Palestinian rights, the Arab world and Islamic culture, and Middle Eastern-related political issues (including those relating to Iraqis and Kurds).

May is a doctorate candidate at Doshisha University in Kyoto, specializing in effects of Middle Eastern satellite broadcasting. She became an anchor in 2005 for the APF NEWS online program "The Olive Journal", and also worked as an assistant anchor for the Cable News channel Asahi Newstar's program "Nyuusu no shinsou" ("In-depth News") until April 2010. She is the author of two books: Secrets - From Palestine to the Country of Cherry Trees, 28 Years With My Mother (2002) and From the Ghettos of the Middle East (2003).
