IMADR is devoted to eliminating all forms
of discriminationaroundthe world and was founded by one of the groups representing
the Burakumin minority group, the Buraku Liberation
LeagueiKaidoj, having been affiliated with the former Socialist Party.
As in any progressive community, there are sometimes differences on basic
ideology and strategy. Another major Buraku group, affiliated with the Japanese
Communist Party, is Zenkairen
and their English page
is here. There is also a group affiliated with the mainstreamLiberal
Democratic Party. An overview of some of the issues involved can be found
on William Wetherall's

The Coalition Against Discrimination by the Prefectural University of Kumamoto is continuing to collect signatures for our petition, which calls upon the Prefectural government and the Prefectural University of Kumamoto (PUK) to work actively toward a mutually satisfactory resolution of the dispute between PUK and two foreign teachers who lost their full-time jobs at the university because PUK refused to grant them the job security that would be accorded automatically to Japanese nationals doing similar work. |

NUGW for more up-to-date information. KTUF was formed in 1990 and its membership comprises unionswhosemembersare
foreign language teachers in the Kanto region. Almost all ofthese unionsare
members of NUGW (national Union of General Workers-Zen Rokkyo) butmembership
of KTUF is not restricted to NUGW unions. |
