I am skeptical about the accuracy and honesty of the mass media. For that reason, the most important sections of my research links are <What is wrong with the mass media?> and <Alternative Media and Activism>. Here you can find critiques of the media as well as alterniave sources of information. There is more information in <Progressive magazines>.
Although generally mainstream, I also include links to many international newspapers because it is refreshing to get a different view than what appears in the Japanese and American media for a change.
Because I am based in Asia and many Asian issues are not covered or covered poorly by the Western press, I include both Asian Mainstream news for a look at what the mass media is saying here and Asian Alternative Media and Activism in order to get a different view.
Following that are specific sections on various broad issues which often fail to get sufficient coverage in the mainstream press, if at all. These are Human Rights, Economics, Business and Labor, Women, Education and Children, Peace, Environment and Health, North, South and the Third World, and Other (for things that don't easily in other categories). Finally there is a link to Darrel Moen's site.
Darrel teaches at several Japanese universities. Many of the above links came from his suggestions. On his site you can find, in addition to these research links, (1) recently published essays, (2) recommended readings and (3) video transcripts. These reveal a very different picture of United State foreign policy and multinational corporate behaviour than what the mass media would like you to see.' The videos are on such subjects as:
America'a Arm Sales
Arming Dictators
Banking on Life and Death
The Business of Hunger
Reflections on Environment
and Development
Guatemala: Human Rights
Thai Forests
School of the Americas:
School of Assassins
GE Nuclear Weapons-Boycott
