TODAY: Voters to Flood The NYC Streets to Celebrate American Democracy

From CommonDreams

NEW YORK – Today, thousands of voters in New York City — who persisted through a historic and unprecedented election — will take to the streets for a day of celebration beginning at 1pm ET at Columbus Circle.

Organized by the Center for Popular Democracy Action and New York Communities for Change, New York Voters will gather together to stand up for the values that underpin American democracy: counting every vote, the peaceful transition of power and putting power in the hands of the people where it belongs. Today’s gathering is part of a national #VotersDecided day of celebration, with grassroots organizations, activists and voters gathering across the country to celebrate the democratic process and show the power of creating a government by and for the people. CPD Action and its affiliates have celebrations planned in 70+ cities (in both battleground states and Democratic strongholds), including Atlanta, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, DC, Georgia and more.

“The votes have been cast and counted, and the people have decided.” said Jennifer Epps-Addison, Network President and Co-Executive Director for Center for Popular Democracy Action. “Black, brown and Latinx people turned out to vote in record numbers because they understand first hand just what is at stake. Today, we celebrate the power of the people, and tomorrow, we will keep fighting for a country that is worthy of all their hopes and labor. This democracy belongs to us — and together, we will build a better future.”
